Anti-Militarist Peace Operation - LIVE

A concert is being organised in Nicosia, Cyprus, on 14th of August in order to raise awareness on the issues of anti-militarisation, freedom and coexistence. This will be the fourth year that this concert will be held.
The name of the concert "Anti-Militarist Peace Operation", ironically refers to the misrepresentation of the invasion by the Turkish State as a 'Peace Operation'.
The significance of the date is that this is the day when the 2nd wave of Turkish invasive forces stepped foot on the island and a day after the infamous quote of 'Ayse can go on holiday' was expressed by the Turkish Prime Minister of the time to the Foreign Minister initiating the Operation.
The promotion material, as well as the previous concerts, have already received a lot of attention. A modified, anti-militarist version of the commonly used sign indicating military areas is used. In the sign, instead of the soldier holding a gun we see a soldier holding a guitar and the 'attention military zone' quote is replaced by 'attention non-military zone'.
The concert will take place in the northern part of Nicosia next to Buyuk Han on 14th August at 20:00. This year up to now BANDISTA and Özgür will be performing.

Τώρα όσο ποτέ άλλοτε όπου η εξαθλίωση κυριεύει τις ζωές μας, ο κόσμος έχει ανάγκη για ενημέρωση, συσπείρωση και αλληλεγγύη. Τώρα που ο κόσμος βομβαρδίζεται από τα εκβιαστικά ψευτοδιλήματα μνημόνια ή χρεοκωπία, την προπαγάνδα των κυρίαρχων στα μέσα μαζικής εξαπάτησης και την λογοκρισία και φίμωση κάθε φωνής αντίστασης και αγώνα, πρέπει να δράσουμε. Παλεύουμε για ένα κόσμο που δεν θα είναι όλα έρμαια στις ανάγκες της αγοράς όπως ορίζουν σήμερα τα επιχειρηματικά συμφέροντα, οι τράπεζες και το καπιταλιστικό σύστημα που μας έφερε στη κοινωνική καταστροφή. Η ανέχεια που καλούμαστε να ζήσουμε εις το όνομα των μνημονίων ανατρέπεται με την συλλογική και ανυπότακτη δράση. Μέσα από τα γεγονότα των τελευταίων ήμερων και της κατάστασης όπου επικρατεί δημιουργήθηκε η ιδεά για το χτίσιμο ενός φεστιβάλ αλληλεγγύης. Μια μέρα όπου ο κόσμος θα μπορεί να συνύπαρξει, να δημιουργήσει, να μιλήσει, να ανταλλάξει απόψεις, να αντιλήφθει ότι μόνο αν πάρει την κατάσταση στα δικά του χεριά μπορεί να απαλλαγεί από τις πολιτικές που μας επιβάλλουν αλλά και να βάλει την προοπτική μιας άλλης ελεύθερης κοινωνίας. Πιστεύουμε ότι πρέπει να αποβάλουμε από πάνω μας κάθε μορφής φιλανθρωπία όπου μας οδηγεί στην εξοικείωση με την φτώχεια, κάθε πρακτικής που δεν συνδέεται καθόλου με τη σύγκρουση με αυτούς που μας έφεραν ως εδώ αλλά αντίθετα υποτάσσεται στα δικά τους συμφέροντα κτυπώντας κάθε απόπειρα αμφισβήτησης των κυρίαρχων κοινωνικών δομών.. Η κυπριακή κοινωνία έχει γεμίσει αυταπάτες που πρέπει να ανατρέψουμε, θέτοντας μπροστά την αλληλεγγύη, την συλλογικότητα, την αλληλοβοήθεια και την ανάγκη για κάτι καλύτερο χωρίς μεσάζοντες . Καλούμε όλους εσάς που δεν δέχεστε να ζουν οι άλλοι σε βάρος των ζωών σας στο Φεστιβάλ Αλληλεγγύης για να γνωριστούμε, να επικοινωνήσουμε εναντιωμένοι σε κάθε μορφή φιλανθρωπίας από αυτούς που μας κλέβουν και μας εκμεταλεύονται, σε κάθε μορφή εξευτελισμού.

Το Σύστημαν/The System - MONSIEUR DOUMANI

This is a rearrangement of a traditional Cypriot song found on Monsieur Doumani's debut album 'Grippy Grappa' There are two variations in terms of its lyrics. The first is a love song (for the Greek-Cypriot community: 'Να σου γοράσω μηχανήν', for the Turkish-Cypriot community: 'Dolama Dolamayı'. )The second variation Gavur İmam 'apparently talks of the 1833 uprisings against the Ottoman administration, jointly undertaken by both Greek-speaking and Turkish-speaking Cypriots.' (cypromusicology.blogspot.com). The second version is the one that inspired this adaptation..

The benefit download for Freedom Books, badly damaged in a fascist arson attack in February, is now available.

Since the attack, individuals and groups across the world have offered their support, in both word and deed, in an unequivocal display of international mutual aid and solidarity.

This compilation is our small contribution to the rebuilding effort. All artists have given their time, energy and creations for free, and we're humbled by their selflessness.
